Jerusalem, Dec. 15, 2016…
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed its shock and outrage over the depiction of Israeli PM Netanyahu as Hitler. A Hitler-like mustache comprised of the word incitement was superimposed on Netanyahu’s image. It was displayed on a wall at the Shenkar College of Art.
Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO and Carole Nuriel, ADL Israel Director issued the following statement:
“We are deeply shocked by the use of Nazi imagery and the comparison to Adolf Hitler in a poster that appeared today in the Shenkar College of Art. The use of Nazi imagery to demonize the Israeli PM denigrates the memory of the Shoah and its victims. Such Holocaust analogies inflame rather than inform and cross the lines of legitimate discourse. Freedom of expression absolutely is essential to Israel’s open society, but the country already has paid a tragic price for similar incitement against its leaders. Today, unfortunately, another norm was violated.
